How We Grade Condition
How We Grade Item Condition
At Longfield Hospice Care, many of the items sold through our online shop are kindly donated and pre-loved. We carefully check each item before listing and describe its condition as clearly and honestly as possible, so you can shop with confidence.
Our Condition Grading Guide
We use the following condition grades to help explain the overall condition of each item.
New With Tags
The item is unused and still has its original retail tags, labels, or packaging attached.
Please note that donated items may still have minor storage marks, light creasing, or packaging wear. Any noticeable issues will be mentioned in the item description wherever identified.
New Without Tags
The item appears unused but does not have its original tags, labels, or packaging attached.
This may apply to clothing, accessories, gifts, homeware, or other items that appear new but cannot be described as new with tags.
Excellent Used Condition
The item has been used but shows very little visible wear.
It should be clean, presentable, and in a condition we would consider very close to new, with no obvious flaws found during listing.
Very Good Used Condition
The item has been used and may show light signs of wear, but remains in very good, usable condition.
Examples may include light surface marks, minor fabric wear, gentle creasing, or small signs of previous use that do not affect normal use.
Good Used Condition
The item has been used and shows general signs of wear, but is still functional, wearable, or usable.
Examples may include visible marks, signs of washing or use, small cosmetic imperfections, light scuffs, or age-related wear. Any notable flaws will be included in the item description where identified.
Fair Used Condition
The item shows heavier signs of use or wear but may still be suitable for use, repair, display, costume, crafting, or resale depending on the item type.
This grade may include items with noticeable marks, wear, fading, scuffs, missing parts, or other imperfections. Please read the full description and view all photographs before purchasing.
For Spares, Repair, or Untested
Some items may be listed as for spares, repair, untested, or partially tested.
This means we are unable to confirm full working condition, or the item may have a known fault. These items are sold as described, and the listing will explain what we have been able to check.
How We Check Items
Before listing, our team visually checks items for condition, completeness, cleanliness, and obvious faults. Where relevant, we may also check sizing labels, measurements, accessories, packaging, model numbers, and basic functionality.
For electrical and electronic items, please also see our electronics testing information page for details of our PAT testing and function testing process.
Please Check The Photos And Description
The item photographs form an important part of the listing. We aim to show the item clearly, including any noticeable flaws, marks, damage, missing parts, or signs of wear where identified.
Because most of our items are donated and pre-owned, there may occasionally be small signs of use that are not visible in every photograph. We always aim to describe items fairly and accurately.
If We Find A Fault
If we identify a fault, mark, missing part, damage, alteration, or testing limitation, we will include this in the product description wherever possible.
If an item cannot be fully checked, this will be stated in the listing so you can make an informed decision before buying.
