The reverse bears handwritten notes stating: "Watercolour drawing of an ancestor of Kathleen Hulman née Beard" and "Carolina c.1840". While the family provenance suggests a date of approximately 1840, this has not been independently verified and should be regarded as an informed family attribution rather than a guaranteed date. The portrait appears to be executed as a drawing with watercolour highlights. Due to the item remaining framed behind glass, the exact medium cannot be conclusively confirmed. The artwork has been reframed at some point in its history and is presented in a later gilt-effect frame ready for display. Condition Age-related toning to paper. Minor foxing/spots visible.
